Product Description

To celebrate what would have been the 60th birthday of Stevie Ray Vaughan (1954-1990), Epic Records/Legacy Recordings will issue 'Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection', collecting the trailblazing blues guitarist's most scintillating studio and live works.

'Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection' includes the group's original four studio albums, five electrifying live releases (including the commercial debut of A Legend In The Making—Live At The El Mocambo, a rare Canadian radio promo album) and a double-disc set of killer studio outtakes from throughout Stevie Ray Vaughan's incredible career, including recordings from previous reissues, box sets and posthumous compilations.

The Dallas, Texas-born Vaughan quickly earned a name for himself as one of the premier blues guitarists of his generation. With a style that evoked both legendary blues greats (Howlin' Wolf, Albert King) and modern guitar heroes (Jimi Hendrix, Lonnie Mack), Stevie Ray Vaughan came to prominence in 1982 with a show-stopping performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival; David Bowie attended the show and recruited the guitarist for his best-selling Let's Dance album in 1983. The title track, an international No. 1 hit, featured Vaughan's distinctive playing.

On the recommendation of legendary producer/label executive John Hammond, Epic Records signed Vaughan and his backing band Double Trouble (bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton, later adding keyboardist Reese Wynans). Vaughan's blues style, at once pristinely produced and recorded with the intensity of a live concert, was well received in an age of synthesizers and drum programming, and the band's striking, Southwestern visual flair found its way onto the playlists of MTV.

Vaughan and Double Trouble released five platinum or multiplatinum studio and live albums from 1983 to 1989; tragically, Vaughan's career ended with his untimely death at the age of 35, but a slew of posthumous live and studio releases kept his legend alive—a legend which has influenced a new wave of blues guitarists, including John Mayer, Derek Trucks and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam.

'Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection' is housed in a clamshell Box containing 12 CDs with a 36 page booklet.
