Product Description

The Central Band of the Royal Air Force, who recently signed a major recording contract with Decca Records on the wing of a Battle of Britain spitfire, are delighted to release their album 'Reach for the Skies'. This will be an Official Album of the Battle of Britain, released to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. It also coincides with the 90th anniversary of the band itself. 'Reach for the Skies' includes RAF-related classics such as The Dambusters March, Spitfire Prelude, 633 Squadron, the Battle of Britain March and Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines as well as the ambient sound of Spitfires flying overhead. Two brand new versions of Churchill's history-changing speeches make this album truly unique. Churchill's speech 'The Few' is for the first time enriched by music from the Central Band of the RAF. 'The Finest Hour' speech is also on the album, another great homage to the RAF. The extracts serve as a stark reminder of this especially dark period of British history and add an extra emotional dimension to the album. The album is dedicated to all those who took part in the Battle of Britain and fought for their country, from the pilots to the radar operators and from the engineers to the plotters.
